Dear Rotaractors and guests
As you may remember,in early September our Club held a joint event in Protaras with our sponsoring Rotary Club of Nicosia.
This joint event (the BBQ Beach Party see post of Sept. 12th 2011) had been held in order to raise funds to support the work and in particular the Alkionides Nest in London. Moreover we hoped that through this event we would draw the spotlight on the Charity, their mission and their achievements but also bring the public’s attention to the difficulties of their endeavor.
Although attendance was lower than expected on the day of our BBQ Beach Party, we managed to raise over 600 euros on the day and a further 400 euros from donations made by Rotarians and others who were listening to our DJ broadcasting live over HiLights internet radio and his appeal for donations at the specified bank account.
On Thursday, 15th of December 2011, Mrs Georgia Polyviou, President of the Alkionides Charity accepted a cheque for 1000 Euros by Mrs Katerina Konnaris, President of the Rotary Club of Nicosia and myself representing our Rotaract Club.
Mrs Polyviou thanked us all for our contribution to the Charity and our commitment in assisting their cause and concluded by wishing us all the best in our future activites and events.
I reciprocated the wishes with a pledge that our Club will in the future organise another event in support of their cause with even greater success.
